You may have noticed that dolls named Labubu have gone viral on social media lately, but what is the story behind them? So, let’s begin, shall we?

Back in 2015, the Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung first created Labubu. It was part of a series called “The Monsters,” inspired by Northern European folklore. This character was also introduced in children’s books and then became a toy. However, it became popular when it collaborated with the toy company Pop Mart in 2019.

Later, it was re-created as a charm for ladies’ bags. When the Thai singer Lisa from the girl band Blackpink was seen with Labubu, it created a further buzz, making this bag charm a global obsession.

Labubu is a female character with pointed ears, a fluffy body, and nine teeth. Despite their mischievous look, Labubu is described as a monster with a kind heart.
